Rivers

After a hot day, we head for the river,

Ganges scene, people come for cooling and company.

Our boy jumped off the high tree

into the deep, dark pool.

By the old bridge,

an egret fishes near a heron,

which acts as its shadow,

grey after white.

Silver elvers dart in the shallows, their shadows

have more substance than their glass bodies.
